New Recruit

Following a successful pre-employment process, post-hire participation in a paid, 24-week Deputy Sheriff academy is required.


Lateral Applicants

Individuals with a current or previous Arizona POST certification or previous/current Law Enforcement Officers in another state or federal agency may qualify for the Deputy Sheriff – Lateral position.

Physical Readiness Assessment (PRA)


Trainee applicants who successfully complete the written exam, background investigation, and polygraph examination must successfully demonstrate physical readiness by completing the following assessments:

  • Maximum Push-Ups: Upper Body Dynamic Strength or Muscular Endurance
  • Twenty (20), no time limit

  • Twenty-Three (23), no time limit
  • 1.5 Mile Run/Walk: Aerobic Power
  • 17 minutes, 44 seconds
